Summary: 

Bioarcheology in China sees its booming growth in recent years with many fascinating discoveries and studies in health and diseases from varying perspectives, such as diet, lifestyle, growth and development, life expectancy and mortality, socioeconomic disparities, violence, medicine, and so on. This webinar showcases recent advancements in paleopathology in ancient peoples from China, including craniectomy, children vulnerability, and neoplasm. Specifically, Dr. Qun Zhang will review the phenomenon of craniotomy and possible etiologies of skull trepanation and head surgery, from spiritual to therapeutic purposes; Dr. Anqi Wang will review children health, diseases, and burials in ancient peoples in China proper, indicating how the hardship in life affecting children and adults alike, while Dr. Shiyu Yang will talk about varying types of bone neoplasm from Neolithic to Iron Age along with the evolution of human awareness of and attempt to treat bone diseases. Presenters of this webinars are among frontline researchers in China, actively conducting bioarcheological studies and experimenting different approaches. These advancements also demonstrate the vast potential for more indepth research contextualized within rich archeological, historical, and environmental records and studies in China and beyond
